  1. Hi Liliana and girls?I guess that you are studyng in this winter break,so I am!
Let´s talk about this wonderful movie. In spite of the fact that I prefer watching thrillers or suspense movies, I have to say I really enjoyed it.The mirror has two faces deals with "juicy" topics and I would like to discuss one of them and to add another that for me was a bit funny.
Stereotypes in society concerning beauty:The movie shows that quite a lot,the fact that Hannna was always wearing make up and claire also.On her side,Rose was wearing make up only in special occasions. What could be criticised here is that people consider wearing make up an important part of thier lifes. However,a person is accepted because of what he/she is like not what he/she looks like.People in our society tend to value more physical appearence rather than intellectual beauty or positive values human beings may have.
Another interesting topic for me was the double meanings or messages this movie gives us in some scenes, for example:"stick it in" when Rose and Greg are going to watch that long long film or "it´s coming".They contribute to description of one of the main topics the movie deals with:sex.
Well mates, that´s all for today,I´m looking forwards to reading your comments.Hugs, see you!

  2. Hi evereone!!! How are you doing?
The most interesting ideas this movie deals with are relationships in marriage as well as within family. Through out the movie we can analyse different ways of behaviours towards one another. The way each member of the family treats and communicates with the others let us realize the kind of respect they have for the other and the kind of personality each has. It is important to notice that their relationship also makes us think about the kind of person we are and how respectful we are for other people´s feelings and ideas of life. Personally speaking, another striking topic is the importance of finding “the one”. At the very beginning of the movie Rose said that she had to face the fact that she would not have a good-looking man by her side, this implies that a person reaching certain age does not have the possibility to find a companion and to have a genuine relationship. What is essential when finally finding the “one” is that this is the right person for you with whom you share interests and goals. What´s more, what has to be a priority in this relationship is mutual respect to assure you it is a long lasting one. Fortunatelly for Rose, and for those who have not found the “one” yet, there is always an opportunity of getting what one deserves.
I really hope you´re having the time of your lives in this winter recess!!
    Enjoy it!!!

  3. Hi everyone! Well, in my opinion one of the most interesting topic that the movie deals with is SECOND CHANCES. By paying attention to the movie we can realize that it is very important to give second chances. If we think about it, Rose gave her mother a second chance, and in that way their relationship was “reconstructed”. The same happened with Greg. After their discussion, he realized that he was really in love with Rose, and she agree on giving him a second chance. Other very interesting topic the movie deals with is TEACHING PROFFESION. By watching the movie we can see the different ways of teaching. On the one hand we can see Rose’s teaching, which is extremely good and efficient. And in contrast we can see Greg’s teaching, which is really boring and wich has no effect on students. By showing us this contrasted pictures, the movie allows us to understand the importance of a good teaching...

Well, in my opinion the movie is really good because as we discussed in class, there are a lot of very interesting topics to talk about and to analyse...

I Hope you are enjoying the recess, see you!

  4. Hello! How are you? Are you having a good time?
I think that the most interesting topic “The Mirror has two Faces” deals with is “Beauty and Personality”. During the whole movie, it is clear the way in which Rose’s personality is influenced and affected by other people’s physical appearances and her own. At the very beginning of movie, she felt that she was an unattractive woman, and she did not make any effort to improve her self-image. She was resigned to her fate of being alone. However, by the end of it, she changed her appearance and turned into a beautiful and attractive woman. Not only did she improve her physical appearance, but also her personality. She became a confident and determined woman who fought for what she wanted and took it without asking.
In my opinion, another topic is the importance of cultural stereotypes in most people nowadays. Throughout the movie, the usual cultural stereotype for women is brought up. Nevertheless, the movie deals with other ones too. For example, which kind of behavior is culturally expected from men? When Greg talked about his “theory,” everybody who listened to him, even Rose, felt astonished, because it strange or unusual that a man things in that way. Another example is the stereotype of a good mother. The popular opinion is that a good mother is the one who supports, loves and takes care of her children rather than herself. In this case, Hanna’s behavior would be badly criticized for being jealous and selfish with her daughter.
Well, that’s all for now… See you soon!

  5. Hi everybody! How are you doing! Hope you’re enjoying the holiday!!!
The movie is excellent. Humorous and at the same time it is serious. It deals with very topics that may concern us all.
In my opinion, the most interesting topic is family relationships. You already know what family means for me, so that’s why I have chosen this topic. I think the movie teaches us to accept and love our family the way it is. Of course we have arguments with our father, mother, brother or sister but… what’s the point in doing that? Every time we have a problem or a doubt, it is a member of your family who is there to listen to you and help you.
We can see this in the movie when Rose goes back to her house after being disappointed by Greg. Claire always tries to escape from Alex and she shelters herself with Rose, her sister.
Taking into account love and sex, I reckon they are two very different things and have nothing to do with each other. If you are in love, you don’t have sex but make love.
Well guys, that’s all for today!
    see you soon!

  6. Hi girls and boys! How are you doing? I hope well! Here it’s my comment:
One of the ideas the movie dealt with is the teaching profession. There is a clear distinction between two different types of teachers. On the one hand, there is Gregory, a traditional and conservative teacher. When he teaches, he doesn’t look at his students because he talks to the board and his classes are really boring. As consequence, his students don’t pay attention and get sidetracked easily. On the other hand, Rose is a magnificent teacher. She interacts with her students, makes eye contact with them and she even knows all their names even though there are more like seventy! Besides, she deals with topics that are interesting for everybody, like love and relationships.
In my opinion, we, as future teachers, should take into consideration these two teacher’s stereotypes and should decide the type of teacher we really want to be. What is more, the recommendations Rose gives to Gregory are very useful for us like to be more relax in class, to invent stories and to relate them with the contents of the subject and to engage and motivate students. Honestly, the two main characters are very good examples to take into account.

This is it! See you mates,
    Florencia

  7. Hello class! I hope you are enjoying this recess!
In my opinion, one of the most interesting topics that the movie deals with is physical appearance. I think that in almost every scene this theme is present.
After having seen the movie I got to two conclusions:
In the first place we have Hanna. She is an old beautiful woman who in her youth was a very attractive person. She considers fashion as the most important policy in life. Although every one admires her, I believe that she is miserable because she has grown up and become aware that all that bright of her youth has gone and that she didn´t enjoy her life as she wanted, even she never felt in love. So, despite of the fact that she was beautiful, it was not good for her life, I mean, it only helped her feel well being attractive, nothing else.
And in the second place, it is Rose´s case which will be analyzed. In the one hand she doesn´t pay attention to how she looks like (at the beginning of the movie), for instance she doesn´t care using make up, sexy clothes or a fashion hairstyle because she considers she is not beautiful, so she feels uncomfortable with those things. But, she do cares knowledge, culture, I mean, other more important things than being in fashion. I really agree with her in the fact that physical appearance is not important in life. However, in the other hand, when she decides to change her style and becomes an attractive woman, she is much more confident, assure of her and sees things from other point of view which is good. She has his objectives much clearer than before. So, here we can see that if you feel good and comfortable with how you look, other more important things of life could be more enjoyable. I agree with this point as well.
So, I can say that physical appearance is not as important as other things but it is important to face life confidently and enjoy it more..
Well, that´s all. Bye bye guys!

  8. Hi everyone! Holidays are about to finish :( TOO BAD! LOL i'M KIDDING. lET'S GET TO WORK AGAIN!

Well I will share my thoughts to you about the teaching profession. The way Gregory teaches his students differs completely from the way Rose does so. Greg is more technnical. He just stands in front of the classroom and he starts writing formulas on the board without caring if his students are getting the topic or not. he likes as if he is in a "Maths party" in which the only guest is him. He 's the only one who enjoys the class. The students start to leave the room and some others yawn constantly. The relation that Greg has established with his students is strictly proffesional. They don't even participate in any exercise since they don't feel involved in the class. The last thing I would mentioned about Greg, is that even though, he has fewer students than Rose, he doesn't know his students'names.

On the other hand, Rose makes her students get involved in the lecture. She lets them participate and they seem to enjoy being part of the class, sharing their opinions to the rest of the classroom. What's more, Rose teaches her students using her own anecdotes in her life which makes her students get even more interested with the lecture. She even knows her students'names which is absolutely astonishing since she has at least a hundred students in the same class.

To sum up, if I have to choose one way to teach my students i would first find out which are my students'interests and then I will decide which is I appropriate for my class. Anyway I believe that the more you get your students involved in the class, the more they will acquire.

I hope you like my thoughts

Enjoy this few days left of the holiday lol!

    See ya ;)

  9. Welcome back class!! We'll get together again next week after the Winter recess and it trully gives me great pleasure to read you comments about the movie. You all covered different topics and that's when sharing our thoughts becomes so enriching. I chose The Mirror Has Two Faces for several reasons: It's a commedy and I knew we could do with some fun in the class; even though it's a romantic movie, it doesn't deal with the topic in a conventional way; it deals with themes that concern our daily life; performances are very good; good standard of language and vocabulary to learn; last but not least, I love the movie and there's nothing better than teaching something you like because it shows and you can probably transmit some of that enthusiasm to your students. All the topics you discuss above are very important and I would round then all up into the idea of being happy with your choices in life: whom you choose to share life with, your career and your professional development, the way you relate to your family and friends... and above all, your self image and how well you love and treat yourself.
I'm so glad it seems everybody enjoyed the movie. I centainly had a great time watching and discussing it with you. Thanks! And as Greg said in his speech at the beginning of the movie: "It's with a little sadness that I say goodbye to it consuming..." many of our classes.

  10. hi class. i think the most important topic dealt with during the movie is the rivalry between beauty and intelligence. at the very beginning it is thought that a person has to choose between being atractive or smart, but in the end Rose's case proves it wrong. The moral teaching is that every person has to balance his/her priorities according to what their definition of happiness is, without careing about other's opinions and critics. Moreover, the movie emphasises the importance of inner beauty rather than external one.
